Our project included a full scaffolding, including a rear scaffold going up and over the property. Brickwork pointing and repairs, helifix structural ties as there was a bulge in the front of wall at 3rd floor level. Stucco repair and replacement work. Felt flat roofing, leadwork repairs and some asphalt works. Alongside the main works there was drainage works to both cast iron rainwater systems and underground drainage, cleaning and decorations with carpentry/timber repairs, along with replacement finials to the railings.

Within the common parts there was a full re-decoration along with a hand-made carpet for the ground floor, carpet replacement throughout to compliment the original design and retaining the original brass stair rods throughout the 5 floors of the stairs and landings. Finally, all internal lighting and sockets were tested and changed along with some upgraded heating works and replacement radiators.

ISSUES & OBSERVATIONS

The square is the central feature of an urban layout planned by the Portman Estate (1815-20) and one of few intact Georgian squares in London. Three properties bear blue plaques to denote famous inhabitants of the square: sir Laurence gomme (1853-1916), who was an early pioneer of the blue plaque scheme, has the 800th plaque at 24 dorset square; George grossman, who co-wrote the diary of nobody, and dodie smith, author of 101 dalmations, both have plaques to commemorate their residence.
