Summer holiday works to a private school in Twickenham

The works involved the strip out and full refurbishment of two science laboratories, including new mechanical and electrical installations, new floor finishes, decorations throughout, new fixtures and fittings and new bespoke laboratory furniture.

We are also building a new brick-built office area above an existing roof, the works entail, new suspended acoustic floor, new timber roof with mastic asphalt covering, new rooflights, new bespoke timber sash window, new mechanical and electrical installations, drylining and bespoke joinery.

The laboratories were thought to have a concrete floor but once strip out works had begun, we discovered that they have a beam and pot floor, we had to carry out careful setting out to ensure beams were avoided, then new services had to be run from below suspended from Unistrut.

As this is a summer holiday project, the works have been carefully programmed to ensure that they are completed in time for a planned handover to the school, we have accelerated the programme to hand over the laboratories to the school a week early to ensure that the teachers have a soft start on the new installation before the children return.

The school has limited vehicle access with the close proximity of the A310 to the front of the building and the river Thames to the immediate rear. Access routes and deliveries were carefully planned to ensure safety of the public, the school and our operatives at all times.
